Royal Mail Minimum Order Value - September 2007
|
As from 1st September 2007, Royal Mail will be implementing
a minimum order value for all dockets (paper & electronic). For further information, click
here to go to Royal Mail website

Minimum Order Value – will launch 1st September 2007
The introduction of a £5 minimum order value will go live on 1st September 2007. Customers
who will be affected by the change will be contacted in July and advised of the new implementation date.
Introduction
The costs incurred by Royal Mail in handling each individual order mean that commercially we need to have
a minimum order value - as many businesses do. Introducing this measure will help balance the high cost of processing small
and manual paper-based orders. This is particularly important now that Royal Mail is operating in a fully competitive postal
market.
Customers will still continue to enjoy other benefits including low prices and extended credit terms when ordering
postal services on their account.
From 1st September 2007, we will be introducing a minimum order value of £5
on all orders we receive. This means that from this date, if customers send us an order at a value of say £4.10, it will be
automatically topped-up to £5.
From early 2008 (date to be confirmed), we will be increasing the minimum order
value on paper posting cheques to £20. At the same time we will also be introducing a £1 handling fee for every paper posting
cheque, regardless of value. The £20 minimum order value and £1 handling fee will not apply to any orders our customers place
electronically.
We will be writing to our customers later in 2007 to confirm the date this will go live

ROYAL MAIL INDUSTRIAL ACTION UPDATE
|
Industrial
ActionNovember 27th updateRoyal Mail is pleased to report that the ballot on the recently negotiated
pay deal has been completed, with members of the Communications Workers Union voting to accept the deal. We sincerely apologise to all of our customers for any disruption and inconvenience the recent strikes may have caused,
and are pleased to confirm that, with one or two isolated exceptions, the backlog of mail has now been cleared and we are
back to normal. Royal Mail is now able to go ahead with plans to modernise the business and make
it more flexible, efficient and able to compete more effectively, and so provide an even better level of service to our customers.
Industrial ActionWednesday 17th October UpdateWe are pleased to announce that the planned strike action for the remainder of this week will
not be going ahead, and that a draft agreement between Royal Mail and the Communications Worker’s Union (CWU) has been
reached concerning the current dispute. The CWU Executive is considering whether to ballot members on this agreement, and
we will communicate the decision as soon as possible.
Whilst we sincerely apologise for suspending a number
of service guarantees and promises, we are delighted to be able to reinstate all guarantees for our Special Delivery services.
This applies to all items posted from Wednesday 17th October.
Sadly this does not include items posted from or
into the Liverpool area because of unofficial industrial action.
We apologise for the disruption and inconvenience
the strikes have caused, and are working hard to get the service back to normal as quickly as possible. There is a significant
build up of mail that will take some time to clear, which we will deal with in the order in which we received it. We will
reinstate guarantees and service promises for other products as soon as we feel able to honour them, and will continue to
keep you informed as and when the situation develops.
Please call our customer service Helplines - 08457
950 950 for Business customers and 08457 740 740 for residential customers- for the latest details.

Industrial action: an update from Royal Mail
October 2nd updateThe Communications Workers Union (CWU)
has announced further strike action. Two 48-hour strikes are planned. The first will begin at lunchtime on Thursday 4th October
and ends at lunchtime on Saturday 6th October. The second will begin in the early hours of Monday 8th October, ending in the
early hours of Wednesday 10th October. This will be followed by an unspecified programme of weekly
strikes, starting week commencing October 15th, until the resolution of the dispute. During the
strikes, Royal Mail’s priorities will be: - Keep mail flowing, by keeping as many sorting
machines and vehicles as possible operating, and processing as much mail as possible through our system
- Protect vulnerable members of society, who depend on Post Office payments of pensions and social security
- Manage the needs of our large customers with bulk mailings – helping them post around disruption as best they
can
- Ensure that all customers can continue to post mail through the Post Office network
- Prioritise Special Delivery services, although all guarantees will be suspended
What
does it mean for our customers? This action will severely limit our ability to provide any services
for the coming period. Customers should expect severe disruption to all postal services during the strikes and for a significant
period afterwards. - Special Delivery will continue to be a priority throughout the period
of disruption. We have well developed contingency plans, and will do all we can to deliver Special Delivery items on the due
day. However, money-back guarantees will be suspended for items posted on 4th October onwards and will be reinstated as soon
as we are sure we can fulfill the service promise
- Door to Door - We will not be able to maintain
a Door to Door service. Royal Mail is therefore applying Force Majeure for all Door to Door contracts scheduled for delivery
during the weeks commencing October 8th, October 15th and October 22nd 2007. Please see the section below for more details
- Redirection, Keepsafe and Diversion - Our advertised standard for setting up these services
is likely to be affected by the industrial action, and so our customers should expect delays
- Redelivery
will be suspended during the initial industrial action and will be reinstated as soon as we are sure we can fulfill the service
promise. Customers collecting items should be aware that enquiry office opening times may vary from normal, and some may be
closed on strike days
- Access mail - We will not give access mail special priority during strikes
and period of recovery. We will deal with mail in the order we receive it, regardless of whether it has come directly from
our customers, or from a supplier of Downstream Access
How can large Business Customers
work with us to reduce the disruption to their mail? Think of our network as a sequence of linked
operations, starting with your mail arriving in the Mail Centre. - Please bring your mailings
forward as far as possible. This will allow us to process your mail quickly and put it onto our vehicles ready for distribution
- We will deal with mail in the order we receive it, regardless of whether it has come via Royal
Mail, directly from our customers, or from one of our competitors
- The earlier it comes into
our system the less severe the delay is likely to be
- Do not post on strike days
- Do not delay postings until after strike days, as it is likely to take some time to clear the backlog of mail
- Please provide us with as accurate and as early forecasts as possible
- Tell your account
manager or Customer Operations Manager (COM) as much as possible about your mailing plans. This will help us to plan our resources.
- If you need to post on a strike day, you can take your mail directly to your local Mail Centre
- We regret that Royal Mail will not be able to collect mail during the strike period
- Our customer service helpline – 08457 950 950 will operate, but will be very busy, so please be patient
- Our website, www.royalmail.com, will contain the latest update on affected areas, so please log on to help you plan
your mailings
How can Small Business customers and Consumers work with us to reduce the
disruption to their mail? - Bring your mailing forward to avoid the strike days – we
will process mail in the order it arrives, so the sooner we receive it, the less severe the delay is likely to be.
- Do not delay postings until after strike days, as it is likely to take some time to clear the backlog of mail.
- Our customer service helpline – 08457 740 740 will operate, but will be very busy, so please be patient.

This phase of the industrial action amounts to a further 24 hour strike which hits different Royal Mail sites

- Advance your bulk mailings as much as you are able and get them into the network as soon as possible

especially those that are most important. This will help us to plan our resources

Separately, the CWU has also announced strike action at all Crown Post Offices in the Post Office Network,
on Thursday 19th July, between 06.00 and 12.00. Please note, this action does not affect the 14,000 plus sub-post offices
nationwide.
